10 Tips to a Healthy Face

Everyone wants to have a healthy face and healthy looking skin, but with all of the advertisements on television and in magazines, it’s difficult to know what products really work best and which skin regiment is the right one for you. Luckily, a healthy face doesn’t always require the most expensive products on the market, nor does it need to take hours worth of preparation.

Below, are 10 easy tips to help ensure that you have the healthy face and healthy-looking skin that you desire.

1. Wash your face twice a day. It’s important that you wash your face in the morning and before you go to bed at night. Washing it in the morning helps you start out fresh, while washing it at night helps get rid of the dirt, oil, and grime that you have picked up during the day. Plus, your skin rejuvenates and repairs itself at night and it needs to begin that process with a clean surface. The products that you use generally aren’t as important as the fact that you are actually washing your face.

2. Moisturize. Even if your skin is oily, you need to use a good moisturizer. For oily skin, use one that is not oil-based.

3. Eat a well-balanced diet. You must ensure that your diet contains the proper amount of proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Vitamins help fight off inflammation and infections, which is good if you suffer from acne breakouts.

4. Hydrate. You must drink an ample amount of water every day. Water keeps your skin hydrated which will keep it from drying out. Water also helps flush toxins from your skin, which can lead to breakouts and other inflammations.

5. Do not use too many drying agents. Although you might have breakouts, using a lot of stringent cleaners, toners, alcohol-based products, and acne medications can dry out your skin. While this might sound ideal, when your skin is dry it actually produces more oil in order to compensate for it. This is another reason why using a good moisturizer is important.

7. Use sunscreen. Even in the winter time, UV rays are present. Use sunscreen to help protect your skin from sun damage and premature wrinkling. Some moisturizers and foundations come with sunscreen in them. It’s important not to use the sunscreen on your face that you use for the rest of your body; however, because it will usually be too thick for your face to handle and can clog your pores.6. Exfoliate. Dead skin cells can build up on your skin and lead to breakouts. Exfoliate at least once a week to get rid of these. This will help your skin rebuild new skin cells, as well as get rid of the old ones. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on an expensive exfoliator, you can always make your own out of oatmeal.

8. Use makeup removers. If you wear a lot of makeup, especially foundation, then use a makeup remover at night. It’s important to get all of the makeup off and sometimes ordinary cleansers will not achieve this.

9. Don’t over-wash. Try not to wash your face more than twice a day. When you do this, your skin can become irritated and if you are using harsh products with strong chemicals, you risk over-drying your face.

10. Spot treat when necessary. If you have a breakout, then use a spot treatment on the breakout. However, resist the urge to apply the spot treatment to your entire face. Spot treatments are usually meant to be strong and if you apply it all over your face, you can risk drying and peeling.
