Questioned on issues like skin care, Charlotte was adamant that getting a sun tan was a ‘cardinal sin.’ This, she argued, was the reason why those rosy cheeked, peaches and cream English complexions are so renowned. Brits as a rule do not generally see much sun. To keep herself hydrated she drank mineral water, and was also known to splash some on her face.
Creams and moisturisers were kept simple and straightforward – perhaps a collagen cream or a product like baby oil to help keep that smooth complexion supple and luminous. And as for make up, that was something she really only put on during filming, preferring instead to let her skin breathe in between jobs. Apart from a slash of red lipstick.
Charlotte Rampling also appears to have been a study in perpetual motion. A trained ballerina, she was continually on the move, whether it was playing with her then 3-year-old son, or doing classic ballet moves to help limber up and stay supple. Even sitting around with friend, or lounging by the pool were opportunities to get in some exercise. The young Charlotte Rampling was as supple as a cat and keeping herself that way was as natural to her as breathing. She was also a fan of jogging around the block, a habit she picked up from her Olympic Gold Medal winning father.
Today, Charlotte Rampling is approaching her 70th birthday and the “the sexiest woman of the seventies” still has that indefinable something that earned her that title 40 years ago. Her body is still slim and supple, and her porcelain complexion still has that youthful, relatively unlined, supple glow it had back then.
