Donut glazes and Perioral (periorificial) dermatitis – what do they have in common? Hailey Bieber’s skin it seems. The 25-year-old model and wife of pop star Justin Bieber says she developed the skin condition a few years ago. Today she suffers from periodical breakouts, often triggered by rapid makeup changes and chemicals that inadvertently come in contact with her skin.
That could make juggling a glazed donut look and healthy skin a bit of a problem but the Hailey Bieber skin care routine seems to have it sorted. The reality also is that the glazed look only happens at night. To paraphrase Hailey: “if you don’t look like a glazed donut when you go to bed, you’re not doing it right”.
“It” refers to Hailey Bieber’s nightly skincare routine, which involves several important processes. First up, off comes the daytime makeup. For this job, Hailey now prefers to use cleansing oil. She says she developed the habit during Covid quarantine and was so impressed by the results she made it a permanent part of her routine.
Next, she washes her face with a gentle hydrating cleanser. Hailey prefers to use a ‘milky’ cleanser because she finds astringent ones make her skin feel tight and dry. After she washes this off, she only partially dries her face. She’s found that leaving her skin damp helps it more effectively absorb the serum she then applies.
After the serum treatment comes the moisturizer, and this is where the ‘glazed donut’ look starts to take shape! Hailey explains that she uses a thicker moisturizer at night because she likes it to soak into her skin. It also produces the desired glaze she’s after.
She then applies face oil over the top of the moisturizer. This puts the glazed look beyond doubt and helps create the flawless, silky smooth complexion Hailey is famous for.
With her face sorted, it’s time to move onto her eyes. She generally uses a retinol based eye cream around her eyes and on her upper eyelids. Hailey explains that this is a good way to reduce saggy eyelids.
When she’s working, Hailey often has to change her makeup several times a day to create certain looks. This can play havoc with her skin, causing flare-ups of her Perioral dermatitis. As a result, she has to adapt her nighttime skincare rituals accordingly.
First up, she swaps over to a lighter moisturizer. Then she applies a prescription ointment to the affected areas before covering the small spots with ‘cute’ protective hydrocolloid patches. And that’s it – the simple nighttime Hailey Bieber skin routine that produces her flawless skin, even with Perioral dermatitis.
